INFORMAL FORMAL LIVING ROOM TOUR // HOME SWEET RENO

We have a large room in the front of our home we had no idea what to do with. It’s to the right of our front door so we wanted the space to be bold but useful at the same time. So we settled on the idea of an “informal” formal living room. It’s basically a second living room without a TV but it makes our home feel so warm and cozy the second you walk through the door!

Above you can see the before was very different! The first thing we did was tear out the tile. We attempted to level the flooring however, the raised level is actually a separate slab that is over 24” deep. After having several licensed pro’s look at it- we came to the conclusion that it couldn’t be removed otherwise it could cause structural damage. We were able to take away that weird notch so that the raised portion is at least straight line up to the door.

After that, we installed LVP throughout the entire house. We used Karastan curated grain in the color “pickled.” We also took off the window panes that were essentially hot glued on, then spray painted the window black to match all of the other windows in the home. The biggest impact was painting the entire home with a fresh white paint- we used Sherwin Williams Extra White in flat for the ceilings and the walls.

There’s still a few items we need like a proper coffee table and window treatments, but we are almost there! I’m so happy with the way this room turned out and a lot of these pieces would be perfect for a smaller living room too. The sofa is SO COMFY and I never thought I would say that about a leather sofa. The leather is so soft. The rug I wouldn’t recommend for a high traffic area or if you have a dog who scratches their back on your rugs as their nails can pull the rug. It is an absolutely stunning rug, though and it’s a really soft jute rug that doesn’t shed.
