You're probably thinking, "but Haley, you're wearing a shirt!" Well, it's surprisingly a dress I wore back in this post and it looks equally as cute as a shirt! Us girls need options and that's why I'm always trying to think of creative ways to re-wear pieces in a different way and of course, share them with you! Today, I'm going to talk about this and two other ways you can reinvent an old dress so that you won't have to quit your favorite plaid (or gingham, or stripe) dress either!
1. WEAR IT AS A SHIRT TIED AT THE WAIST
This works best with dresses that have side slits like this BB Dakota "Lance" Plaid Dress. You can tuck some of the fabric under but let the "tail" of the dress hang down, mimicking a shirt tied around your waist. Keep it buttoned all the way to the spot where you want the tie and knot the front two pieces, tucking any extra fabric away!
2. WEAR A MIDI SKIRT OVER A SHIFT OR BODYCON DRESS
Chances are you have a body-con or shift dress in your closet that would work perfectly for this! Midi skirts are huge this season too, so you'll be on-trend and able to re-wear an old dress without anyone ever knowing! If you're wearing a printed dress, just make sure that your skirt is thick enough or well-lined and the print doesn't show through. You can even add a belt to tie your outfit together and elevate your look!
3. SHORTEN IT FOR A NIGHT OUT
I've actually done this multiple times with the dress I wore in this post! This works best with dresses that have an empire waist and it's even better if it ties at the waist. All you have to do is put on the dress as you normally would and carefully tuck the fabric under, making sure the length is even all the way around (or keep it longer in the back)! You can still achieve this look with a dress that doesn't come with a belt, just add your own!
Have you ever tried any of these tricks to get the most out of your wardrobe? If not, which one will you be trying first?! Thank you so much for stopping by Me & Mr. Jones today!
Have a great day!
