One of the design challenges I faced when moving into our new home was the awkward entryway space. It’s a skinny wall between the hallway and Skyler’s office, so you can’t have a large piece of furniture like a console. We also keep our keys in a bowl in the entryway so that we always know where they are, but we needed something that was high enough that Jett couldn’t reach them. We had a piece of furniture tall and skinny enough, but the problem was that Mr. Jones and I both hated it. I came up with a few ideas for this space, but ultimately decided to refinish the piece we already have to save money. In today’s post I’m sharing how I revamped this space spending very little money and some other ideas I had for an awkward entryway!

NOIR BLACK CANDLE (REPURPOSED AS A KEY BOWL) //
ORWELL BLACK & WHITE STRIPED RUG //
VINTAGE AMERICAN FLAG (SIMILAR) //
The piece of furniture we had came from Homegoods ages ago when Mr. Jones and I first moved in together in Louisville Kentucky. We lived in this precious little 800 sq ft home and I had so much decorating our first place. At the time, we kept this in the kitchen and it was full of coozies (before YETI existed- lol), flasks, and things that young 20 somethings use on the weekends- ha!
While it’s a great piece for the entry, I think we were just sick of looking at it and the distressed finish wasn’t vibing with our current decor. I thought for sure I wanted to get rid of it completely. That is until I accidentally bought too many cans of spray paint on Amazon and couldn’t return them. I figured since I already bought them, I might as well see what this piece looked like painted flat black! What I didn’t realize was that I would LOVE IT!!! We also had an extra hex handle from cb2 that matches our cabniet drawer pulls and it surprisingly fit the pre-existing holes perfectly!
To finish the space, I wanted either abstract artwork or a pretty mirror. I really loved this gold oval mirror with a shelf, but thought it might be too busy. If you have a small entryway and need something for your keys, this mirror would be PERFECT! You could decorate it with a cute little footed bowl for your keys and a tall bud vase.
Another option that I loved was this walnut bookcase with 2 drawers. It attaches to the wall and you can fill it with pretty decor and functional pieces like a key bowl! It is a little pricey, but I also found this budget friendly option that also comes in a few colors/finishes.
The next 2 pieces are similar in size to the table we have. They’re perfect for any small space and I love that the marble bar cart can also function as a small entryway table! It’s so pretty too.
Hopefully one of these solutions will work for your small entryway space! Make sure you check out my latest Amazon home finds and follow along on Instagram stories to see them in person! Have a wonderful weekend, friends!
