When the temperature rises and it's almost too hot outside to function, it's easy to slip into a less than spectacular outfit routine. Trust me, it happens to me every summer and I get mad at myself for wearing flip flops too much! To avoid slipping into a jeans-and-tee rut again, I've come up with 3 easy to follow tips to find and style flawless summer outfits!
1. STICK WITH EFFORTLESS SUMMER DRESSES
There are two very important factors to consider to find the perfect summer dress so you can look chic and stay cool. The first is the fit; The best styles that will be flattering and perfect for summer heat are shift dresses, a-line shapes, and drop-waist styles like the BB Dakota frock I'm wearing in this post! Two things you want to stay away from are elastic or fitted waistbands and silk fabrics. Yes, an empire waist is super cute, but not when it makes you sweat in that particular spot!
The second thing to consider before buying a summer dress is the fabric content. Dresses made of lighter fabrics are great for the hottest of summer days and best of all, they're comfortable! Cotton dresses are ideal, but stay away from silk fabrics because even the slightest amount of sweat can be embarrassingly obvious and could even leave a stain behind. If you do choose a fabric that isn't cotton, just make sure it has a lightweight lining so that if you do get a little overheated, chances are no one will notice!
2. INVEST IN CHIC & COMFORTABLE SANDALS
One of the reasons a lot of us end up in flip-flops is because they're easy to throw on and comfortable, but the bad news is they don't elevate our outfits! The best way to up the ante while keeping it simple is investing in summer sandals that are both comfortable and cute.
I'm keen on sandals that have a block heel because they can be dressed up or down and are still very comfortable. Another style that always works for any shape and height are gladiator sandals. These Dolce Vita Lyndon sandals are cute with everything I've ever tried on with them (seriously, my husband even told me I wore them too much!). I also just purchased these beauties and can vouch for their spectacular comfort level!
3. SUMMER ACCESSORIES
If you opt for a simple summer dress & comfortable sandals, you can add interest to your outfit with accessories! Hats are always my go-to third piece in the summer and I'm really crushing on boater hats at the moment. Check out this post for more on my favorite summer accessories! Another "accessory" to consider is your hair. If you go for a fun braided style, it will add interest to your ensemble, keep you cool in the summer heat, and can also be your third piece!
